My mates

Starting from my days in Jadavpur University till date I have established informal network across the whole of the professional world. My friends and collaborators are everywhere, Academia, Industry, Government, Big Corporate companies, MSME Sectors, Startups etc. I have quasi-formalized some of them as my extended team of mates. Profiles for some of key professionals are summarized below. 'Guru may be greater than God but Friend is definitely better than everybody else'.

Dr. Biswajit Chakravorty

Dr. Biswajit Chakravorty born on 29 March 1963 after his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Itanagar in 1980 received North Eastern Council Scholarship to complete B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) in 1984 from the College of Agricultural Engineering, PAU, Ludhiana securing First Division. After completing his degree, he worked as an Assistant Engineer, Rural Works Department, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh from September 1984 to September 1994. During this period he did M.E. (Hydrology) from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) in 1990 and was placed in First Division with Honours and thereafter received fellowship from Govt of the Netherlands in 1991 for M.Sc (Hydrological Engg) at IHE, Delft which he completed in 1993. He joined the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), a premier R&D organization under the Ministry of Jal Shakti Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India as Scientist ‘C’ in September, 1994. He continued his services at NIH and was subsequently elevated to the position of Scientist 'G' since July, 2015. Alongside, he also discharged additional responsibilities as Head at the Centre for Flood Management Studies, NIH, Patna since July, 2009 till his superannuation on 31st March, 2023.

As Assistant Engineer in Arunachal Pradesh, he undertook and supervised schemes under Rural water supply, Minor irrigation, Soil and water conservation, Link roads, schemes under renewable and non-conventional energy sources etc. At the National Institute of Hydrology, Dr Chakravorty was involved in R&D activities in the field of Hydrology specifically in Waterlogging and drainage congestion, Watershed development, problem in command areas, Groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling, Conjunctive use of surface and groundwater for increasing agricultural productivity, Remote sensing and GIS in water resources studies, River flow modelling etc.

Dr. Chakravorty has prepared more than 35 research reports, published more than 100 papers in the International Journals, National Journals, International Conferences and National Conferences. He also contributed chapter of books, completed 12 Consultancy and Sponsored Projects and guided B.E/M.E engineering students. He was invited by the FAO to share his research experiences in the field of waterlogging and drainage congestion at Kuala Lumpur in January 2005. He received ‘Vishveshvaraya Memorial award of 2006-2007’ from Vishveshvaraya Memorial Trust, Bihar based on his research contribution in managing Waterlogging and Drainage congestion in Lower Gandak command. He also received ‘The Sir Arthur Cotton Memorial Award’ of the Institution of Engineers (India) in 2009 for his scientific paper. He was invited at Stockholm in the World Water Week-2010 to present his work on ‘Transport Behavior of Arsenic in Groundwater and Evaluation of Remedial Options– A Case Study in West Bengal, India’.

His notable research contributions are in waterlogging and drainage congestion, urban flood modelling, groundwater flow and transport, hydrological study of interlinking of rivers etc. Dr. Chakravorty was the India Lead of the prestigious Indo-UK-DST-NERC-Newton Bhabha - Water Quality Research Project on Arsenic problem in the Ganga River Basin along with 3 Indian partners (Mahavir Cancer Sansthan and Research Centre Patna, IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur) and 4 UK Institutes (University of Manchester (UoM), British Geological Survey, University of Birmingham and University of Salford) with the UoM as the UK lead. This 4-year project was completed in January, 2022 with 26 publications in the International Journals from the project partners with a patent in credit.

Dr. Ujjwal Saha

Prof. Ujjwal Saha has obtained his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from IIEST-Shibpur, West Bengal in 2002 and Master of Engineering (Water Resources) in 2004 from Jadavpur University. After the Dr. Saha has joined Irrigation and Waterways Directorate, Government of West Bengal as Assistant Engineer and stays there till 2008. He started his doctoral program in Water Resources Engineering in 2008 and obtained his PhD from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2015. Dr. Saha has previously worked as Assistant Professor in NIT, Raipur and now currently working as Assistant Professor in the IIEST, Shibpur.

Dr. Saha has published 18 scientific articles in the international peer-reviewed journals, 1 article in national peer-reviewed journals and 3 national-level conference papers. Dr. Saha has organized two training courses and 4 seminars. Dr. Saha has given 5 invited lectures. Dr. Saha has also been invited to internal research visits twice. Dr. Saha is also life member of Indian Water Resources Society and Institute of Engineers.

Till date, Dr. Saha has managed/delivered 7 consultancy projects with cumulative consultancy fees of more than INR. 50 Lakhs.  

Dr. Saha’s research interests are Stochastic Rainfall Modeling, Storm Water Design, Climate Change (Impact) Studies, Urban Hydrology; his expertise covers myriad aspects of Water Resources Engineering like Flood Protection Works, Catchment Area Treatment, Rainwater Harvesting, Hydrology & Hydraulics of Weirs, Climate Smart Decision Support System etc.

Er. Rajib Roy

Mr. Rajib Roy was graduated in BE (Chemical Engineering) from Jadavpur University in 2009 and then completed his ME (Chemical Engineering) in 2011 from the same University. He has started his career with Cognizant Technology Solution as Programmer Analys and then joined ONGC as Executive Engineer in 2012.

Mr. Roy is highly skilled Oil & Gas Professional & Researcher with over 13 years of experience in upstream operations, conceptual engineering, well completion, formation damage remediation, and mature field development. Expertise in physics- and chemistry-based modeling, data-driven process optimization, and numerical simulations for production enhancement. Strong background in hydrogen energy, low-carbon fuel production, and sustainable energy transition strategies. Adept at executive administration, policy coordination, and training, including serving as an IADC Well Control Trainer. Passionate about technology-driven innovations in oil & gas field operations and their applications in the energy transition.

Currently, Mr. Roy is working as Superintending Engineer in Institute of Production Engg. & Ocean Technology, ONGC, Mumbai and pursing his doctoral program in IIT Delhi specializing in Hydrogen Energy.

Dr. Tarun Naskar

Dr. Tarun Naskar was graduated in BE-Civil Engineering from Bengal Engineering & Science University (now Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology), Shibpur in 2008. He obtained his M.E (Topper Geotech division) and Ph.D. (Geotechnical) in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India in 2018. Currently, Dr. Naskar is an Associate professor in the Geotechnical Engineering Division of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras.


He is the Principal Investigator for Wave Propagation lab at IIT-M. Dr. Naskar’s research interests are wave propagation in an elastic medium, SASW/MASW, bender element test, ground response analysis, geotechnical earthquake engineering, and artificial intelligence. His research is majorly focused on developing an efficient inversion tool for practicing engineers to obtain a fast and reliable shear wave velocity profile by incorporating deep learning in the area of geophysical data analysis.


He co-authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Canadian Geotechnical Journal, Journal of Geophysics & Engineering, and Geophysics. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate level courses such as advanced soil mechanics and computer methods in civil engineering at IITM. He is involved in various projects across India, focusing on the determination of accurate shear wave velocity profile of irregularly dispersive subsurface using MASW. Apart from academics, Dr. Tarun actively participates in trekking, writing poems and reading books. He trekked to the mighty Himalayas, and his most recent one was Kalindi Pass (~6000m).

Dr. Sourav Sarkar

Dr. Sourav Sarkar is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Jadavpur University. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Jadavpur University (2012) and his Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (2014). He completed his PhD at Jadavpur University in 2022, focusing on combustion modeling and experimentation. His current research interests include combustion and reacting flows, multiphase flows (such as droplets, sprays, and bubbles), and the thermal management of batteries. Additionally, he is actively involved in energy-related activities, such as the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning of buildings and industries. He is a recipient of the Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence (TARE) Award from SERB, DST, Government of India, in 2021.

Mr. Subir Saha was in Architecture (B. Arch.) in 1994 from Jadavpur University. His professional career spans over 3 decades. He is now one of the Directors of Haven Consultants Pvt. Ltd based in Kolkata.

Hospitals for State Health System Development Projects in Orissa (World Bank Funded).

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Roy

Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Kumar Roy was graduated in Civil Engineering from NIT, Silchar in 1997. And then worked as Software Engineer for 3 years before moving into academia again in 2000 and completed his ME (Environmental Engineering) from Jadavpur University in 2002. He has completed his doctoral degree in 2006 from Jadavpur University specializing in Environmental Engineering. Prof. Roy is currently a Professor and the Former Director of the School of Water Resources Engineering and the School of Environmental Studies, Jadavpur University. He has acted as DEAN of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Law and Management, Jadavpur University from 2019-2021.

He has completed more than 25 national and international research projects funded by the World Bank, EU, State DST, DST-NRDMS, PHED, WBCPCB etc. and has conducted more than 35 consultancy research projects. He has more than 25 years of teaching and research experience. He has published more than 316 research articles in national and international journals and published more than 50 research articles as book chapters.

He is now working with Switch ON Foundation and Water for People to train and support rural women by offering skill enhancement of groundwater monitoring and level measurement to make them empowered and environmental benefits. He is currently supervising 28 Research Scholars. He is presently the Principal Investigator of the World Bank project entitled “Appointment of Agency for Baseline and User Satisfaction Survey of West Bengal Inland Water Transport Logistics and Spatial Development Project” which has a duration of 3 years and costs over 2.35 Crore.

Prof. Roy is also member of 27 professional /academic / policy making bodies like Institution of Engineers, Institution of Public Health Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Environmental and Water Resources Institute of ASCE, Member, Coasts, Oceans, Ports and River Institute of ASCE, The Indian Science Congress Association, Advisory Board of Sustain Awards 2022 of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) etc.

Prof. Roy has received many awards in his illustrated career like Young Scientist Award (Institute of Engineers, Govt. of India), 1st National Doctorate Fellow by AICTE at JU (Govt. of India), Internship Fellowship (University of Pisa, Italy), IEI Young Engineers Award (Institution of Engineers (India), Government of India) and Sir Ganga Ram Memorial Prize (The Institution of Engineers, India).

Dr. Roy’s areas of expertise are Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Climate Change and its impact on Water Resources Engineering, Surface Water Pollution and its mitigation, Groundwater Dynamics, Watershed Technology and Management, Forest Hydrology, Water Conservation Technology, Hydro-Geological Investigation, Surface and Ground Water Interaction, Solid Waste Management, Hydrological and Environmental Modelling, Environmental Monitoring, Water and Waste Water Characteristics, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Anti Bacteriological Studies in Surface and Ground Water, Hydraulic Structure and Hydel Power Engineering.

Dr. Arijit Banerjee

Dr. Arijit Banerjee completed his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in 2004, Masters in Mechanical Engineering in 2006 and PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2014. He has cumulative teaching/research/consultancy experience of about 12.5 years.

His main areas of expertise are Multiphase Flow, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Natural and Mixed Convection, Semi-Analytical Techniques, Phase-Change, Thermodynamic/ Second Law/ Exergy Analysis, Heat Transfer Enhancement, Sustainable Energy, Gas Dynamics and Propulsion, Rigid Body Dynamics, Aerodynamics, Fluid Dynamics.

He is conversant with plethora of software like FORTRAN, Mathematica, AutoCAD, Tecplot, MS Excel, Fusion 360, Geogebra etc. Dr. Banerjee has 10 publications till date including 3 internal journal articles, 5 national journal articles and 2 conference papers.

Dr. Banerjee is a regular reviewer of International Journals like Physics of Fluids and International Journal of Thermal Sciences for more than two years. He is also Member of ASME from 2017-18 and Life Member of NSFMFP.

Currently, Dr. Banerjee is working as Associate Professor in Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur.

Dr. Chitrita Kundu

Dr. Chitrita Kundu has started her journey of becoming an Engineer from Jadavpur University, Kolkata from where she was graduated in BE-Chemical Engineering in 2008 and ME-Chemical Engineering in 2011. Thereafter she joined IIT-Guwahati as PhD Scholar and completed her doctoral degree program in 2018. After that she remained in academia/consultancy domain till date. Her professional experience consists of Post Doctoral Research Fellow at IIT-Guwahati, Assistant Professor in NIT, Andhra Pradesh, Scientist at Honeywell UOP Training.


Dr. Kundu has 5 peer reviewed journal articles and 5 conference proceedings till date. While doing doctoral program at IIT Guwahati, she received best poster presentation award three times – CCP CCP 2015, IUPAP Conference on Computational Physics at IIT Guwahati, MACRO 2015, International Symposium on Polymer Science and Technology at IACS, Kolkata, Reflux 2014, at IIT Guwahati.


During her Masters, she worked on “Water Quality Analysis of East Kolkata Wetlands”; while her research topic in PhD was “Investigation of Crystallization of Diblock Copolymers by Molecular Simulation”.
Currently, Dr. Kundu is working as Business Development Executive at a Mumbai-based private limited company.

Dr. Javed Akhtar

Dr. Javed Akhtar completed his BSc (Physics) in 2011 and MSc (Physics) in 2013, both from Jadavpur University. He then remained with academia and research and completed Ph.D. with DST-INSPIRE fellowship from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, in 2020. His Ph.D. work involved in development of regional climate change scenarios from state-of-the-art global climate models using statistical downscaling techniques.  He has published more than thirty research articles and book chapters with both nationally and internationally reputed publishers. Two of his research articles were cited by the sixth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He was nominated to attend the 10th HOPE meeting with Nobel laureates at Yokohama, Japan, and designated as a JSPS HOPE fellow by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in 2018. He has also obtained full financial grants to attend São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Climate Change at University of São Paulo, Brazil (2017), Bergen Summer Research School at University of Bergen, Norway (2016), and ICRC-CORDEX at Stockholm University, Sweden (2016).

Dr. Javed Akhter is presently working as a Project Scientist-II at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, under the National Monsoon Mission Project. His expertise lies in climate data analysis, statistical modelling, machine learning, and geospatial analysis. He has previously worked as Dr. DS Kothari Post Doctoral fellow at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Calcutta, from 2021 to 2024. During this period, he has taught various topics in Atmospheric Sciences and guided several master’s dissertations.  He has also been invited to deliver talks and hands-on training by various organizations.

Mr. Ratan Bhowmik was graduated in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University in 1993. After that he worked in the Industry till 2014 in various positions like AGM (Power Solutions) Manager (Marketing), Assistant Manager, Group Manager in companies of high repute like AVK|SEG UK (LTD), Shneider Electric, ABB, Siemens Energy.

Mr. Bhowmik is a Power System Design Consulting and Energy Management professional with over 25 years of engagement in Electrical Engineering Solution for LV and MV electrical distribution in utilities, industries and buildings.

He continues to be a serial entrepreneur to establish new products (Relays, LV Switchgears, Drives, 11kV RMU/ Packaged Substation and 33kV GIS) in the emerging markets of eastern India for the Companies like SEG, Schneider, ABB and Siemens.

Perceived by customers as a good listener and trusted one to understand their pain point and delight them with realistic solution.

Er. Nilanjan Basu

Mr. Nilanjan Basu is a Civil Engineer having more than 26 years of experience in his field. Mr. Basu graduated in Bachelor of Civil Engineering from R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore University in 1998 and Master of Engineering (Structures) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2017. He has worked in diverse projects involving Design and Detailing of RCC and Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Structures in Industrial Projects. He has gained proficiency in Oil Refinery, Steel Plants, Cement Plants, Multi-storied Building, Multiplexes, etc. He specializes in Blast Resistant Design of Structures. He was worked in companies like, Consulting Engineers Private Ltd, PKG Construction Pvt. Ltd., Ministry of Steel, before starting his own company, BCE Design Services LLP (Formerly Basu Consulting Engineers). Since then, at BCE, he heads a team of 30 people and has worked on more than 118 Indian Projects and 85 Foreign Projects. His knowledge of American, British and European along with Indian codes keeps him at the forefront of technology. He has extensive knowledge of Structural software packages such as RAM Structural, STAAD, RISA-3D, ETABS, SAFE, GTStrudl, AutoCAD, etc.

Dr. Mehbub Rahaman

Prof. Mehabub Rahaman was graduated in Chemical Engineering from Jadavpur University in 2002 and then completed his ME (Chemical Engineering) from the same University in 2005. He then moved on to academia and obtained his doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT-Guwahati in 2010.

Currently Prof. Rahaman is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, and prior to that, he was associated with Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. He joined Jadavpur University in 2009 and has over a decade of experience in academic research and teaching. His research areas are Catalysis and Reaction Engineering, Separation with Chemical Reaction, Biodegradable Waste derived Biofuels and other Value-Added Chemicals, Adsorption/Electrochemical Techniques in Wastewater Treatment, Carbon Material for Energy Storage, and Chemical Process Development. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), India. He published two articles in the high-ranked AIChE Journal and one monograph based on his doctoral research project. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. He was honored with the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to undertake Postdoctoral Research in Europe by the European Commission in 2013. He was a group member of Prof. Alirio Rodrigues at the Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering (LSRE) in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering – University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal for his Postdoctoral Research.

Er. Ujjwal Das

Mr. Ujjwal Kumar Das completed his BTech. (Chemical Engineering) from Calcutta Institute of Technology in 2005 and MTech. (Process Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 2007.

After 2007, Mr. Das has been working extensively in the industry and industrial research projects with 18 years of professional experience. His core areas of expertise are Factory and Operations Management in fine fragrances, Pharmaceuticals, distillery, Food and Chemical Industries; and Project Engineering/Management – Refinery, Petrochem, Dye-Pigment-Resins, Power plant, and concept to commissioning.

He has worked as Project/Process Consultant for several reputed companies like DM Aromatics, HL Aromatics, AMRO Aromatics, R.S. Shells, Siyaram Petrotech Pvt. Ltd., Balmer Lawrie Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Gas Authority of India Ltd etc.

Mr. Das is also member of several professional bodies namely, International Federation of Essential Oil, U.S.A; Flavour & Fragrences Association of India, Mumbai; Essential Oil Association of India, New Delhi; Oil Technologist Association, Kolkata; Biotechnologist Association of India.

Mr. Das has previously trained a talented batch of Chemists from Department of Geology and Mines, Royal Government of Bhutan on the behalf of Jadavpur University. At present, Mr. Das is also a co-guide for two PhD scholars in the Department of Physics, Jadavpur University.

Er. Asish Kumar Sen

Mr. Asish Kumar Sen was graduated in Civil Engineering in 1985 from RE College Durgapur (now known as NIT-Durgapur) and then after a five-year career in the private companies like CES, Dulal Mukherjee & Associates as Site In-Charge for Residential Projects, he joined Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, Government of West Bengal (KMDA-GoWB) and stayed there till his superannuation in Sep2022 as Chief Engineer (Roads & Bridges). He obtained his ME (Public Health Engineering) from All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health Kolkata in 1999.

Mr. Sen worked extensively in large scale infrastructure projects within KMDA’s jurisdiction. Some of these projects are Mathkal Sewage Treatment Plant under Ganga Action Plan, Behala Chow Rasta Underground Reservoir (UGR), Design, Construction and Commissioning of 1 MGD Water Treatment Plant by PLATE SETTLER METHOD in Chandannagar, Hooghly District; Salkia UGR, Belgachia UGS, 30 MGD WTP at Padmapukur, 15 km pipe line laying in Dankuni Area; Kolkata Urban Services for Poor Programme, Project Monitoring Cell, Ultadanga Flyover, MAA Flyover, Kamalgachi Flyover, Park Circus RoB, Pedestrianisation and Traffic Decongestion of Dakshineswar Temple area, (Skywalk)” at Dakshineswar, Health Study of Bridges (about 40 nos) in and around Kolkata, EM Bypass Maintenance Works, Sewarage, Drainage, Road & Solid Waste Managememt works for NKDA.

Currently, Mr. Sen is working as a Freelance Consultant.

Mr. Sujit Kumar Roy obtained his BSc in Environmental Science & Disaster Management in 2018 from NSTU, Bangladesh. After that he worked with various organizations in Bangladesh like RAiN Forum, IWFM-BUET, Plan Plus Limited in various capacities like Lab Intern, GIS Data Analyst, Research Associate, Research Fellow, Resources Person, Assistant Manager (Environment), Jr. Env. Expert etc. till 2022. He joined BUET in 2002 and obtained his MSc in Water Resources Development in 2024. Mr. Roy brings with him a very rich array of experience/achievement as summarized below:

  • 40+ research publications mostly in Q1 journals;

  • Hands-On experience in ArcGIS. QGIS and Google Earth Engine;

  • Advanced Skills in Python, R, and Spatial ML Modelling;

  • Experience in climate hazard prediction, groundwater modelling and ecosystem dynamics


Mr. Roy is simultaneously an Environmental Expert, RS&GIS Expert, RStudio and Python Coder and ML Expert. His passion lies in applying geospatial AI to tackle real-world sustainability challenges.

Currently Mr. Roy is working as Environment Expert for an ADB-funded project of Bangladesh Water Development Board.
